Hair that sits close to the head.

Because full hair is awesome but I'm tired of Sims that look like a shampoo commercial parody.

What makes me sad is that there are a TON of really cute hairstyles out there that I'd LOVE to use, except they make Sims look like bobblehead dolls.

If I really like them, I tend to try to scale them down in milkshape. I did with that one recent Peggy bob everyone and their great aunt recolored but never got around to releasing it because, eh, lazy.

Peggy's one of the worst offenders, too. You should totally release it! People would shower you with praise. ... With more praise. *has spent the last two days Pookletting Nouk hairs with lovely, lovely actions*

lol, you shush. All I did was select all and click SCALE a couple of times per age. But yeah, when I have the time to boot the game I might snap a quick in-game shot and fling it on my journal. It just seems like such a small, dumb thing. Like I should have OTHER STUFF before I release it. Meh.

Having other stuff before releasing something is pretty much the reason I seem to do fifteen-to-twenty hairs at a time. "Oh come on who is going to click for just one hair when all I have are crappy Body Shop previews? ... oh my god my bandwidth..."

If that is the mesh I'm thinking of then pleeeeaaase do release it, if ever you get the time! :D

Someday, maybe, possibly, perhaps, I have in mind to de-puffify some of the newer Nouk hairs, and reshape some of the older ones. She made awesome hair, but she had an odd idea of how how to shape heads.

You know, I love Nouks hairs, but now that I'm working on retexturing some of them, I-- it's-- it's so frustrating, I feel like I'm out of words. I'm into flames on the side of my face territory. There are eight Nouk hairs I really want to Pooklet; I've done six of them, and I'm working on the seventh. Most of them are nice normal hairs with two or three textures per age. Easy peasy! Four out of the eight I want are monsters. Fifteen (!) groups and at least three or four of them do nothing, most of them are the same except for these two, which need one part turned upside down to look decent-- not right, just decent-- and there is a different group for the back side of every fucking strand, and now I have made the alpha all pretty and there are these... these four little pieces that came out of NOWHERE and they shear off abruptly and I don't know where they are to fix them or if I CAN fix them and and flames. Flames... on the side of my face... (But most of them have nice flat textures so that applying Pooklet's textures as well as her colors is well within my skill set... except for the insanity.)

Nouk's hairs are GORGEOUS and I love them, but it's been kind of a shock to discover that many of them are monsters under the hood.

... Wow, that got long. So ANYway, I can certainly think of a couple of Nouk hairs that could use some tweaking, but I'm kind of afraid they'd be nightmares to futz with so I'm scared to suggest anything.

Oh, dude. That's horrifying, especially since she really should have known better. Which ones were they? I might give them a whack when I feel like tilting at windmills.

The ones that have made my poor little head hurt are:

Tyler (also known as Long Hair Little Braids)
Male Long Hair (the current object of my frustration, with the little blocky things that came out of nowhere)
Crispin (actually not TOO bad comparatively, but there's some mysterious wasted space and again with the front is not the back)
and the long male ponytail which is probably something like Long Pony Male. I haven't mucked with it yet, but I've done the Jake Sully Braid, which has very similar mapping, where the back side of one loose strand at the forehead has its very own group. I don't even.

Insanity mapping. But I got Crispin and Tyler done-- I'm actually pretty pleased with Crispin, I stole parts of a Peggy alpha and now it's got this fun unwashed-peasant stringy look to it.

... Oh, and I know Pooklet's whacking at them, but for the record that Two Wavy Tails mesh has the bangs linked directly to the ponytails, so if you wanted to take the bangs off or thin them down or whatever, you lose that much of your ponytails, too.

Urghhh, yes. Going to have to make a version with the fringe cut off of the mesh since Nouk's pretty famous for mapping the same texture/alpha to different parts of hair. I know it saves on space but it does make alpha edits frustrating.

It really, really does, and it would be awesome to have a version of that hair that, you know. Didn't do that. It's too cute on toddlers and kids to pass up.

Unfortunately, remapping things is also an area of meshing at which I fail pretty hard, bleurgh.

Whacking the bangs off completely is also awesome. Saves polys.

Aiyee. Those are all pretty old, which probably explains it (Crispin has way more pieces than it actually needs for the shape, as I'm sure you've noticed). And that male long hair is... wince worthy. I'll definitely give that one a bash, but I don't know if i can save it from its own malformedness.

But if not, that's all right. I know it's on the shampoo-commercial side, but I'll be converting the Valentine's hair for guys so they have something that actually looks like long hair.

Yeah, I figured they had to be on the old side-- at least the male long hair, it's not really very smooth and I have other long mail hairs I like better, but... I don't know, I felt compelled to at least try. But OH MY GOD so much stuff is on there upside down. As in, on some pieces the alpha that is the hairline is the hair ends on other pieces. (I found the bastard little pieces that were Horribly Wrong. Upside-down wrong. There was no hair-ish bit on her alpha there, and it wasn't until my alpha thinned the rest a little that it showed at all. ARGH.)

I seem to remember the Valentine's hair being a nice one. Somehow it's not in my bucket of Things To Pookletinate, but that is a pretty big bucket.

The Valentine's hair is one of the few female long hair meshes I liked for a long time -- it's not far past the shoulderblades, it has some wave to the texture, and the bits in front and framing locks of hair around the face aren't outrageously overdone.

I have a feeling the male long hair mesh is one of those that will be better remade from scratch. :|

I just went to look it up-- I have it, I use it, I guess I ought to Pooklet it one of these days-- and yeah, that is a right nice mesh. It'd look good on a guy.

Oh, probably, and it's a damn shame, because I just (like five seconds ago) remembered one of the reasons I like it-- I haven't seen any other long, straight male hairs that are swept back over the head-- no part, no wispy bits, nothing hanging over the shoulder in the front, just long, non-poofy hair pushed back off the face. I guess it brings something unique to the party after all.
